Pour in the support, and keep up the positivity.
Marcus Books, the legendary (one of the oldest Black owned Book stores in the entire US) is in trouble of closure. First started in SF, then opening a branch in Oakland…I along with countless young people of all races trekked to this store, probably first as a child with my mother, then as a college student at SFSU studying Egyptology among other things, and now as a parent/adult when looking for Black picture books. Reblog this so the petition gets signed, but note that places like these are important landmarks of knowledge and self determination.
It should also be noted that Marcus Books is the only book store i know of (and i’ve called many) that has an Extensive collection of Childrens Books, Picture Books, and Comics featuring African and African American children.

You may feel like you’re in the fire today. The heat is being turned up. Everything is coming against you. Let me encourage you, it’s because there’s something great in store. When the heat gets turned up, it means you’re close to your breakthrough. Remember, God is with you when you’re going through the fire. If you will stay in faith, He will do for you what He did for them. He’ll bring you through the fire—without even smelling like smoke—into the place of victory He has prepared for you!

This past Memorial Day weekend, while walking home from work, twin brothers Aaron and Kristin were brutally attacked around 3 am Sunday in the LES by approximately 10-12 men. Despite eyewitnesses and surveillance video of the attack, the NYPD were quick to label the attack “gang related” and close the case without any investigation. When Aaron’s girlfriend, Cipriana followed up with police a day after the attack she was told that the twins said they did not want an investigation and would “handle it themselves”. Knowing this was untrue, Cipriana encouraged Aaron to contact the police and ask them to pursue the investigation.
When Aaron spoke with police and explained that they did in fact want an investigation he was told he could “face jail time for lying”. It wasn’t until Cipriana took to her blog, urbanbushbabes.com to write about the attack and the lack of police investigation that the press took note (NY Post & Fox 5) and the police suddenly changed their tune. Now the NYPD claims the case was never closed and has labeled it a hate crime.
We really need your help to get this story out and to get justice for the twins. Here’s how you can help:
• Sign the change.org petition to hold the NYPD & Internal Affairs Bureau Liable for their misconduct in the handling of Aaron and Kristin’s case
• Click here to tweet about the petition using the #justice4twins hashtag• Reblog and share this post
• Tweet this story to media influencers like @MHarrisPerry @TheRevAl @ClutchMagazine @blackvoices and @thinkprogress
• read and share the full story and video from Cipriana’s blog
“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful” (Colossians 3:15 NIV).
As believers, we are a commanded to be thankful. I believe this is a natural result of allowing the peace of God to rule our hearts. Did you know that you can choose to have peace? You don’t have to let things upset you. You don’t have to be anxious and worried. That word peace means to set at one again. When you set your mind at one with God and His Word, you will have peace. God also leads us by peace. If you don’t have peace about a decision, wait and follow the direction of the peace in your heart. And when you have peace, you can’t help but be thankful! You will have a song in your heart and a spring in your step. Choose today to let the peace of Christ rule in your heart and have an attitude of gratitude toward the Lord. Even if you have things that are upsetting you, take a step of faith and begin to thank God for His goodness in your life. Thank Him for working behind the scenes on your behalf. As you do, you will walk forward into the life of blessing He has in store for you!

But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart. (1 Samuel 16:7)
